  • Us and them

Every since they started building my house, I’ve been complaining (to whoever will listen) about how the developer of my subdivision refuses to finish the entrance sign. It looks really sad when you look at what the development across the street has.

I’m hoping they’re just waiting for the animatronic deer (this is Deer Ridge, after all), and maybe a wall-of-flames to show up.

  • Nice sunset, but no picture

I spent the weekend at my parents house, hoping that being there would make me feel better. My heart skipped less today than on previous days, but I’m still feeling a little weird.
This afternoon my mom came back to Brentwood with me, and we did the grocery shopping thing that I mentioned a few weeks back.
On the way out of the store the sun had just set, and it was amazing. The wispy and feathery clouds in the sky were different shades of blue, purple, red, and orange. I wish I had a camera with me, as this one was great. The weather has been warm here lately and it was 79 degrees as we left the store at 6:30.
We got home and I quickly marinated some chicken breasts that I bought in some yummy teriyaki sauce. We watched 60 Minutes and then I fired up the new BBQ (which Amit and I broke in last week) and cooked the chicken and some veggie skewers. Everything came out great. It’s nice to be able to enjoy the warm evenings, which will be even nicer in a few months.

  • A not-so-fun trip to the doctor

For the last few weeks I’ve had this annoying sensation in my chest, near my collar bone. It always feels the same — and it’s really hard to describe — kind of like a twitch, I suppose.
The whole thing was making me anxious, so I gave up and went to the doctor. I’m nervous as I arrive, and it shows when they take my blood pressure and pulse.
I tell the doctor what’s going on and I lay down for him to listen to my heart. Sure enough, while he’s listening, it happens — twice. Heart palpitations. Now I’m really freaked out.
He asks me about caffeine (I’ve been trying to avoid that since this started), stress (yes, and it’s worse since this all started), family history, etc. He wants me to have an EKG to make sure there’s nothing funny going on, so I do that. My EKG was normal. I’m going to have blood tests soon for thyroid, stomach acid, and blood sugar as well.
SO, he tells me not to worry, it’s not dangerous, etc (if you’re dizzy or fainting, then it’s a problem). My brain is having a hard time being convinced of that — it’s my heart we’re talking about here. And, of course, anxiety over this just makes it worse — a vicious circle.
So now I have to find a way out of this mess… I need to reduce the stress enough so the problem goes away, so I won’t have to worry about it anymore.
Anybody gone through this before? Any wise words of advice?

  • New addition to my garden

I saw this at Home Depot yesterday and couldn’t resist. It’s a pineapple plant!
My garden is really growing now. Even my grapes are starting to produce leaves. Exciting stuff.

    Check them out!

  • lessons learned

I was reminded of two things this weekend in LA:
A friend is someone you can count on (I’ve learned this one the hard way). Family is always there for you.
I’ll post my Disneyland pictures on Tuesday.
